  • Holloman’s “Fighting 49ers” training mission transfers to the First Command

    The 49th Wing officially recognized the transfer of the base’s flying training mission to Air Education and Training Command during a ceremony here Sept. 28. The transition, effective Oct. 1, 2018, aligns the wing and all co-located units, which hosts MQ-9 Reaper and F-16 Viper formal training units, under the 19th Air Force, the numbered air force responsible for flying training across the Air Force.
  • A Matter of FACT: Growing the U-2 pilot selection process with first-ever program

    For the first time, the 9th Reconnaissance Wing will open its aperture for recruiting U.S. Air Force pilots into the U-2 Dragon Lady through an experimental program beginning in the fall of 2018. Through the newly established U-2 First Assignment Companion Trainer (FACT) program, the 9th RW’s 1st Reconnaissance Squadron will broaden its scope of pilots eligible to fly the U-2 by allowing Air Force student pilots in Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) the opportunity to enter a direct pipeline to flying the U-2.

  • Luke creates first F-35 undergraduate pilot curriculum

    The first class of undergraduate pilots began training through the newly written F-35 Lightning II curriculum Dec. 5 in the F-35 Academic Training Center at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona.
