  • 97 AMW honors fallen WWII Airman with KC-46 flyover

    The history of The 97th Air Mobility Wing’s “Triangle Y” symbol dates back to when the 97th Bombardment Group flew missions out of Italy during WWII. That legacy resurfaced when one of the pilots who flew one of those “Triangle Y” aircraft remains were found and was finally laid to rest in Millinocket, Maine, on Oct. 9, 2021, after being lost at sea for more than 75 years.
  • 56 ARS continue ‘Star Spangled Ambassador’ tradition

    A special package recently turned an ordinary training flight into something a bit more special at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, August 3, 2021. The Star-Spangled Ambassador, a flag that has flown over all seven continents and 50 different countries aboard 122 different airframes flew aboard a KC-46 Pegasus from the 56th Air Refueling Squadron.

  • Altus AFB Airmen exercise severe weather, rapid airpower response

    Approximately 29 aircraft could be seen over the skies of Southwest Oklahoma, April 2, 2021, as Airmen of the 97th Air Mobility Wing exercised their ability to evacuate a large number of aircraft in a short amount of time. The planes were launched as part of a severe weather exercise, testing the base’s ability to relocate aircraft before impending storms - something many consider necessary due to Altus’ geographic location.
