KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- A demonstration of a new live multimedia conference system took place at the Bay Breeze Event Center here Feb. 6.
The new system provides the wing commander the ability to directly reach Airmen through a live broadcast to locations around base.
“The purpose of the Multimedia Broadcast System is to give the wing commander the capability to reach out to as much as the base populace as possible,” said 1st Lt. Joseph Votto, 81st Communications Squadron plans and programs officer in charge. “There is no one auditorium that meets the space requirement for all Keesler permanent party, let alone students. This system enables the same message to be delivered to multiple venues, live.”
There are five locations on base that will be able to use the system which includes: The second and third floor of the BBEC, Welch Theater, Roberts Maintenance Facility and the Don Wylie Auditorium.
“There are several applications that have been discussed, such as, large training events, professional development opportunities and Dragon Week activities,” said Maj. Jerry Hambright, 81st CS commander. “Col. Edmondson is looking for good ideas to use this capability to improve communications within the wing, so we are open to any inputs for how an organization could use this technology.”
Members of the 81st CS are still testing the various features of this new system. At the moment only the base commander has use of the system but it will open to additional members of the base at a later time.
As we gain experience with the system we will eventually gain the ability to record these same presentations for later viewing,” Votto said. “As more capabilities are brought online and additional features are explored, the availability of the system to a greater base of users is possible.”
