MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Air University’s Cyber College hosted the 2018 Air Force Cyber Strategy Conference, May 22-23, here.
The event welcomed cyber experts from around the nation to discuss the importance of innovating cyber strategy within the Air Force.
“This is an integral part of what we do and needs to be more of an integral part of what we teach at Air War College and in other places across our Air Force,” said Brig. Gen. Jeremy Sloane, Air War College commandant. “This isn’t the only time of the year that these events go on but this is one of the more significant times when we gather groups of experts in a room and start moving the ball forward.”
Sloan helped kick off the two-day event along with Col. Clinton Mixon, Air Force Cyber College commandant, and Dr. Pano Yannakogeorgos, Air Force Cyber College dean.
The structure of the conference is to focus on first understanding our current state on cyber strategy and on how we can improve it, Yannakogeorgos said.
Following the presentation keynote, attendees broke into small groups to discuss current cyber efforts and develop strategies that will bolster future cyber warfare.
The conference allowed speakers ranging from active duty to prior service and civilians an opportunity to express their ideas and opinions on the best strategy the Air Force can take in the cyber realm.
“I think the ability to have an open and frank discussion is most important right now,” said Colonel Corey Ramsby, 55th Communications Group commander. “There is not a single point of view that is going to help solve this problem, it is going to be the perspective of multiple points of views that will help us find a solution.”
