GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Tech. Sgt. Aimee Thomas, 17th Training Wing Command Post Command and Control Operations noncommissioned officer in charge, won the Air Education and Training Command CP NCO of the Year award Jan. 29.
In 2018, Thomas was able to rack up a multitude of accomplishments. She filled a superintendent position at the command post for three months. Being a superintendent involved managing the strategic overview of her shop while still fulfilling all of her NCO duties. Examples of her duties included helping put together packages for junior Airmen, and interacting with higher enlisted and officers about the workings of the shop.
“We were lucky enough to have a lot of big projects that I was able to get done last year,” said Thomas.
The command post is able to help with large projects on base, ranging from AtHoc messages to improving base security.
Thomas said her proudest achievement was installing security measures on an alternate command post that didn’t have proper security measures in place. Her team collaborated with the 17th Security Forces Squadron to make the project successful.
All of these achievements added up to her CP NCO of the Year award.
“It was very surprising,” said Thomas. “But I was very honored. It’s good to know that higher headquarters sees the work we put in here.”
As a supervisor, Thomas is highly revered by her team.
“She is one of the best supervisors I’ve ever had,” said Staff. Sgt. Joseph Carter CP emergency actions controller and NCOIC of reports, who has been working with Thomas for over a year.
In addition to a positive work environment, Thomas is involved with many organization outside of her normal duties at Goodfellow.
Carter said people go to her for everything. Everyone on base knows they have someone at command post.
Thomas will be competing for NCO of the Year at the AETC level in the coming months. Goodfellow wishes her luck and thanks her for her outstanding wingmanship and leadership.
