LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Juan Soriano, 47th Maintenance Directorate Plans and Scheduling work lead, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of June 10, 2019 at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.
The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Todd Dyer, 47th Flying Training Wing vice commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin Mission.
Soriano lead his Plans and Scheduling team on a semi-annual review of T-1A Jayhawk, T-6A Texan II and T-38C Talon inspection data of over 1,475 items resulting in completion with zero errors.
“That’s a lengthy report we have to do, it’s a large book that has all the requirements from the Air Force, and it’s basically a big technical order with everything we have to track,” Soriano said. “Checking each section usually takes about 3 days, T-1, T-6 and T-38 all have two sections and Aircrew Ground Equipment has one. Each section has more than 600 items so that’s quite a bit of Technical Orders.”
Soriano also participated in a TDY to the 12th Flying Training Wing at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, to review Navy T-6B Texan II, consolidating data between the different writing styles between the U.S. Air Force ‘Technical Orders’ and U.S. Navy ‘Technical Directives’.
“My job was to get there and make sure to load all the inspections that are required by the Job Master List and the Technical Orders,” Soriano said. “We had to go page by page and make sure we had all the requirements for the B model, build a Technical Order, load it into the system and then make sure the data was correct. Each one had around 380 items, so times that by two.”
For his work in making sure Laughlin maintenance assets remain accurate and accounted for and assisting the Air Force’s sister service, the U.S. Navy, Soriano has earned this week’s “XLer” of the Week.
