12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

K-9 fixer upper: 340th FTG volunteers spruce up dogs’ digs

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas --  
It was a K-9 fixer upper opportunity that led two 340th Flying Training Group members who don’t have pets to spend a recent afternoon helping dogs who don’t have families.
 

Master Sgt. Melissa Erwin, group information technology superintendent, and Anthoney Smith, financial management travel lead, volunteered to paint dog kennels at the Humane Society of New Braunfels Area, New Braunfels, Texas, while the kennel residents were out for medical procedures. By the time the pups returned, their quarters were clean and fresh.

Although neither has a pet, both Erwin and Smith welcome opportunities to help others. Both are animal lovers, so helping out the Humane Society was a natural fit.

Erwin, a long-time volunteer at Habitat for Humanity and other non-profit agencies in Georgia and Arizona, has been volunteering at the New Braunfels shelter for a little over a year, helping prep animals for veterinary visits, adoption events and more. She got involved when a fellow group member told her about the facility and its need for support, and although it’s a long drive from her house in Cibolo, she plans to continue to help when she can.

The painting visit was Smith’s first time at the shelter, but like Erwin, he’s a regular volunteer whenever there’s a need, whether it’s setting up and cooking for a unit event or helping out at the local food bank. Like Erwin, he’s not a New Braunfels resident, but the drive wasn’t going to stop him from helping the shelter and its dogs.

Until the shelter dogs have forever homes and families of their own, Erwin, Smith and other group volunteers plan to do what they can to make the shelter a better place for them.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
