Volunteers from Holloman Air Force Base and members of the local community came together for the 28th annual Day of Caring, September 6, 2019, at the Otero County Fairgrounds in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

The Day of Caring is an annual event, where volunteers perform various tasks, such as home repairs or yard work, at pre-determined job sites for individuals who are either unable to accomplish the tasks themselves or do not have the resources to do so.

Several local businesses not only sponsored the event, but volunteered as well.

The Day of Caring is one of many annual events the 49th Wing supports and is dedicated to beautifying the local area and assisting residents in need. This year, the Day of Caring supported over 100 families.

The opening ceremony kicked off with speakers from Holloman and the local community, including the Mayor of Alamogordo, Richard Boss.

“Thank you for participating in this event,” said Boss, speaking to the crowd of volunteers. “The benefit to our community goes way beyond the monetary value [it costs to support the event]. Our elderly and disabled citizens’ lives are enhanced and made better as a result of your contribution.”
