12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Air show performers sure to wow audience

SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – The Sheppard AFB Guardians of Freedom Open House & Air Show Oct. 26-27, 2019, is shaping up to be one of the finest events hosted for the public by the installation.

Gates open at 9 a.m. The general public will use the Missile Road Gate entrance, while all Department of Defense identification cardholders are encouraged to use the Hospital Gate entrance.

A with previous event, this year’s open house and air show is full of entertainment on the ground and in the air.

On the ground, guests will be able to get up close and personal with aircraft on display during the show, including the fifth-generation multi-role jet fighter the F-35 Lightning II, a C-17 Globemaster III, a special forces AC-130J gunship, a Czechoslovakian-made L-39 Albatros, a Sikorsky UH-34, a World War II-era C-47 Skytrain, Extra EA-300 civilian aerobatic planes, and many other aircraft used at Sheppard for pilot and aircraft maintenance training.

For those arriving for the performances in the North Texas sky, here is a by-order rundown of performers. Air performances are scheduled to begin at about 11:30 a.m.

There are a few do’s and don’ts to be mindful of during the two-day event. All items brought to the open house and air show are subject to search by 82nd Security Forces Squadron personnel.

Here are items prohibited from the event: Unmanned aircraft systems, a.k.a. drones; helium balloons; coolers; backpacks; large purses and tote bags; large camera bags; bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and hover boards; firearms; edged weapons such as knives; pets; and alcohol.

Allowed items include small purses; small diaper bags; camera, video cameras and phones; folding chairs, which must be out of the bag when going through security; strollers and wagons; and food, which must be hand carried and not in coolers.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
