12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Team BLAZE given opportunity to explore variety of airframes during fly-in

COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. --  

Airmen from several major commands flew in a variety of aircraft to Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, Dec. 10 to show and inform members of Team BLAZE about their missions.

The exhibition started at 11:30 a.m. on the SAC Ramp with static displays. The event was open to all of Team BLAZE and their families, but provided an opportunity for student pilots to check out and engage with potential aircraft they could one day be assigned to fly.

Second Lt. Connor Hari, a future student pilot, attended the fly-in. Hari said he gained more intuition than he thought he would.

“It was super cool,” said Hari. “I was honestly surprised how many planes were out there. It definitely gave me a lot of insight and will help me choose an aircraft when the time comes.”

As Airmen arrived to observe and tour the different displays, aircrews stayed nearby to answer questions about capabilities and history of the aircraft.

Capt. Joe Barton, 14th Operations Group Commander’s Action Group, assisted in the coordination of the event and talked about its significance for Columbus AFB.

“By doing these events and bringing these planes in, the whole base gets to see what’s going on in the Air Force and the fruits of their labor,” Barton said.

Barton later said the visit was not only for the student pilots to grasp a better understanding of various aircraft. He said he wanted other Airmen, civilians and families to connect and realize they are a part of Team BLAZE as well.

Some of the aircraft on display included F-16 Fighting Falcons, a C-17 Globemaster III, an A-10 Thunderbolt, a U-28, plus many more.

Capability briefings at the Columbus Club followed the static display presentations. Attendees got an in-depth brief about each aircraft’s intent, its abilities and mission.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
