LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- While attending the 2020 Fiesta of Flight Air and Space expo at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, airshow-goers are scheduled to also have the opportunity to stop by the science, technology, engineering and mathematics displays on the flightline.
The ‘STEM zone’ for the airshow is slated to feature:
- 47th Operations Group’s T-6 Texan II and T-38 Talon virtual reality simulators
- 47th Healthcare Operations Squadron aerospace and operational physiology pre-flight equipment
- 47th Operations Support Squadron aircrew flight equipment’s flight suit demos
- 47th Force Support Squadron’s Library team with a projector and 3D printer setup
Laughlin has also teamed up with several outside partners, to include the NASA, the Southwest Texas Junior College of Aviation Technology, the Val Verde Regional Medical Center, and the USAF Airman Heritage Museum to bring displays and interactive booths for the show as well.
“I really hope attendees see that there’s more to the Air Force than just flying,” said Capt. Aubrey Haigwood, 47th Flying Training Wing open house STEM coordinator. “There’s lots of other opportunities the Air Force and the STEM career fields have to offer, and we’re excited to put them on display to see during the airshow.”
The ‘STEM zone,’ aims to introduce the public to both the capabilities of the U.S. Air Force, and career opportunities available to them.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Haigwood said. “It’s also good opportunity for people to enjoy themselves and see something outside of just the airplanes during the event.”
