12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Keesler ensures cyber training continues online

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The 81st Training Wing’s mission of training, developing, and inspiring premier warfighters is essential for the development of the Air Force and its future.

However, with the threat of COVID-19 impacting the health and well-being of the students in training on Keesler, leadership has had to develop creative solutions to a unique problem.

To prevent the spread of the virus, the 333rd Training Squadron has implemented new online classes to safely teach the students of cyber warfare operations.

The instructors connect with the students through a Discord chatroom and a cyber training evaluation platform, which allows them to communicate with the students and display the class material. Tech. Sgt. Kyle Griffin, 333rd Training Squadron instructor supervisor, explains the alternate and safer approach to teaching his students during this time.

“The virtual class allows us to hear our students’ voices and reduce the chances of our Airmen contracting the virus,” said Griffin. “The instructors have the tools to effectively teach our students the material. Being able to show our students our computer screens and interact with them through streaming allows us to efficiently present the class.”

Staff Sgt. John Raulston, 333rd TRS instructor, believes this approach is necessary to protect his students from the virus.

“We don’t know the true danger of the virus,” said Raulston. “We are still discovering more about it, and keeping the students safe is a top priority.”

This opportunity has allowed Raulston and the other instructors to create an effective method of training.

“Our leadership has given us this opportunity to give our full effort and ideas into an interactive way of teaching and it has been very beneficial,” said Raulston. “The students have given positive feedback and we want to continue to teach our Airmen this way.”

Griffin believes the virtual classes are necessary because of Keesler’s crucial mission.

“Our mission is essential to the Air Force and we must continue to deliver mission-ready professionals,” said Griffin. “The students are comfortable and focused, giving us an effective way of teaching them while maintaining safety precautions.”

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
