GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- In the midst of precautions taking place because of COVID-19, Col. Andres Nazario, 17th Training Wing commander, called for a tactical pause day March 30.
The first tactical pause resilience day was held last year to help raise morale and positivity for team Goodfellow.
This pause day is in preparation and response to the COVID-19 disease that has been sweeping across the world.
“The reason that we are having this tactical pause is to explore all of the possible options regarding continuing training and still keeping members and their families safe,” said Col. Thomas Coakley, 17th Training Group commander. “We deal with training that isn’t able to be completed over traditional distance learning. You can’t learn how to put out a fire at home. But today is a time for us to sit down and try to figure out all of our options.”
Continuing the mission here at Goodfellow means putting into place some extra precautions to keep members safe during the outbreak. Mission essential organizations that are staying open have implemented social distancing procedures and maximized teleworking capabilities.
During this tactical pause, individuals who are not mission essential personnel are taking a break from their regular workday to build morale and brainstorm different ways to continue the mission of the base. The leadership of Goodfellow is keeping the safety of military members and their families at the top of the priority list.
“For the training tactical pause, the squadrons are all addressing how they will move forward taking care of their mission,” said Maj. Rick Rebulanan, 17th TRG chief of staff. “They are also looking at taking care of military members moving forward in this new environment.”
During this time, individuals are encouraged to practice precautionary measures, washing hands, using hand sanitizer and staying at home whenever possible.
