12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Month of the Military Child 2020

 

April is designated as Month of the Military Child; a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families worldwide, with an emphasis on the experience of the dependent children of military members serving at home and overseas. Month of the Military Child is sponsored by the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy and supported by many other organizations such as the DoDEA.

Wednesday April 15, 2020 is Purple Up! Day for HQ, Europe & Pacific and the Americas. Select military installations or communities may decide to designate different days throughout the month.

 

Ways to Celebrate Purple Up! Day

 

  • Wear Purple on Purple Up! Day

  • Ask local, regional, state, and federal officials to wear purple on Purple Up! day

  • Suggest companies and businesses ask their employees to wear purple

  • Ask schools, teachers to recognize Purple Up! Day

  • Recognize military children

  • Involve schools, sports teams, youth organizations, clubs, after school programs, fraternal organizations, social clubs, coworkers, members of your organizations

  • Request local businesses, stores and restaurants post a Purple Up! message

 

Purple Up! For Military Kids Day

 

“Purple Up! For Military Kids” is a day for DoDEA Communities to wear purple to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. Wearing purple is a visible way to show support and thank military youth for their strength and sacrifices. Purple indicates that all branches of the military are supported. Air Force blue, Army green, Navy blue, Marine red, and Coast Guard blue all are thought to combine together as a single color, purple.

Many Exchanges will often celebrate Purple Up! Day by offering free treats to any child who wears purple to participating Exchange restaurants worldwide.

 

Virtual Purple Up! Day Ideas for 2020

 

  • Encourage your social community to participate in Purple Up! Day

  • Wear purple during online classrooms via Zoom, Skype and Hangouts

  • Invite military parents to attend one of their children’s online classrooms

  • Make a Tik Tok video dedicated to Purple Up! day or honor military children

  • Share your activities and photos on social media #purpleup

  • Tell your kid their awesome with this certificate and share on social media

  • Purple Up! on Houseparty with your friends

  • Teachers can honor or recognize military children during their online classrooms

  • Hold an online contest by asking children of military families to share their “Hero Story” of what they think it takes to be a hero word essay, a drawing or a video

  • Create Bulletin Board “What does HONOR mean to you…” and share on social media

  • Web Site/Newsletter Feature – Schools can promote the Month of the Military Child with resource links

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
