ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Representatives from 10 different Air Force Developmental Special Duties gathered to educate Airmen interested in taking special duty positions Nov. 6, 2020 at the Freedom Community Center at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma.
The DSD Job Fair gave 23 representatives the opportunity to inform more than 50 Altus AFB Airmen on ways broaden their military careers.
“I thought it was a good turnout,” said Master Sgt. Monique Tester, 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron NCO in charge of individual protective equipment, who also organized the event. “It was nice to have people from all of those DSDs in one room. That doesn’t happen often, and it served as a one-stop shop for Airmen who were interested.”
The 10 special duties represented at the fair included: Military Training Instructor, Enlisted Accessions Recruiter, USAF Honor Guard NCO, Volunteer First Sergeant, Airman Dorm Leader, Professional Military Education Airman Leadership School Instructor, Airman Family and Readiness Center NCO, Military Training Leader, U.S. Air Force Academy Military Parachute Training Team NCO, and Career Assistance Advisor.
Additionally, booths for the following special duty identifiers were at the fair: Base Honor Guard, Inspector General Inspector and Unit Deployment Manager.
Senior Airman Altrevius Fuqua, 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle equipment maintenance journeyman, attended the fair in person because he found it more beneficial than the research he did online.
“It’s very beneficial to talk one-on-one with someone who has experience in the DSD you’re interested in,” said Fuqua. “This gave me more insight into the different opportunities for my career.”
