12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Keesler MTL takes over AETC Instagram March 22

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO – RANDOLPH, Texas – As we continue our commitment to valuing force generators in the First Command, our next force generator who will take over AETC’s Instagram is Senior Master Sgt. Jessica Johnson, military training leader from Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi.

Military training leaders instill the Air Force core values during their time in technical training.

Johnson, has been an MTL for about four years, spending two years at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph and two at Keesler AFB. She is in charge of the MTL schoolhouse, where she trains all the current and soon to be MTLs.

Before volunteering for the developmental special duty assignment, Johnson was an aerospace medicine medical technician for 12 years.

“I’m excited to show what a day in the life is like for an MTL student at Keesler,” Johnson, said. “I think that this is the perfect platform for others to take a closer look at what it’s like to be part of force generation in technical training.”

Instructors at the Military Training Leader Course at Keesler Air Force Base train about 120 MTLs each year. Those MTLs are then responsible for training about 30,000 Airmen in 49 different locations, under Air Education and Training Command.

“Given this opportunity to highlight the hard work these NCOs and SNCOs endure to complete this course is an honor.” Johnson, said. “Showing off what we do firsthand in our role as force generators in technical training is something that’s truly valuable to not only us as MTL, but also to potential candidates who may volunteer to take on this necessary job as a force generator and leader.

The four-week long training course consists of drill, physical training, human behavior counseling and mentoring.

“We have to ensure AETC is a command that people want to come to, want to work hard at while they are here, and are recognized for that incredibly hard work recruiting, training, and educating exceptional Airmen,” said Chief Master Sgt. Erik Thompson, AETC command.

The AETC training and instructor corps are the underpinning of Airmen development.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
