MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala.-- Chief Master Sgt. of the Space Force Roger A. Towberman met with U.S. Space Force Guardians assigned to Maxwell Air Force Base during an all call March 23, 2021.
Towberman addressed topics ranging from diversity and inclusion to policy and direction of the Space Force for its second year of activation. He encouraged Guardians to be innovative and avoid discomfort in pursuit of growth.
“I believe in our aspirations with all of my heart,” said Towberman. “Across everything that we do, you will see me trying to invest in our human weapons system. I’m doing everything I can … to focus on development, to focus on helping every one of us move towards meaning.”
As the newest branch of service recently exceeded 10,000 members, Space Force leadership is now focusing on integrating the service across the DoD, the interagency, commercial industry and their allies and partners to fully leverage their resources to maintain superiority in space. The U.S. relies on assets in space in order to be faster, more informed, more precise and to stay ahead of its adversaries.
As part of his closing remarks, Towberman encouraged Maxwell-Gunter Guardians to rethink what it takes to be a leader.
“Leaders yesterday were the people that gave the answer to the team,” said Towberman. “Leadership today is the person that asks questions of the many. None of us can ever hope to have all the answers anymore, the world just isn’t going to let us. And so to lead effectively, you've got to ask questions, which means being a little vulnerable, it means being humble.”
