SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Angelo State University hosted a ceremony for Goodfellow members transferring their service from the United States Air Force to the United States Space Force at the ASU planetarium in San Angelo, Texas, March 26.
“Space is now considered the warfighting domain,” said Col. Andres Nazario, 17th Training Wing commander. “Our adversaries are continuously looking for ways to eliminate our space superiority, because they know how crucial space is to the way we conduct warfare and more importantly, our way of life.”
Since December 20, 2019, the Space Force continues to train and equip Guardians, as they are called by Space Force, to protect and defend our nation. Certain military career fields have the opportunity to cross-service into the new founded branch.
“We like to think that the Space Force is the future, and it is, but the Space Force is also the now,” said Nazario. “Those of you that are officially transferring today, our future leaders both enlisted and officers, it’s important that all of you made the choice as volunteers. You all have chosen to forge a new service culture that will be documented in history.”
The Space Force’s responsibilities include: developing Guardians, acquiring military space systems, maturing the military doctrine for space power and organizing space forces to present to our Combatant Commands.
“Without space, intelligence professionals training every day at Goodfellow AFB wouldn’t be able to develop the skills they need to preserve our national security,” said Nazario.
