GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Brig. Gen. Shawn Bratton, Space Training and Readiness Command Task Force planning lead, U.S. Space Force, visited Goodfellow from May 16-18.
Bratton toured the installation and experienced how Goodfellow members train and provide cryptologic and operational intelligence expertise to joint forces.
Col. James Finlayson, 17th Training Wing vice commander, and other base leadership showed Bratton an overview of the joint cryptologic training course, and visited the classrooms where these courses take place.
Intelligence students begin their classes via virtual learning in their dorms, since security clearances are not required to start the course; this significantly cuts the time students spend in training.
“I’ve had a fantastic experience so far,” said Airman Silver Moon, 316th Training Squadron student. “The way our instructors have set everything up has made it simple, easy and very accessible.”
Special Instruments Training instructors with the 312th Training Squadron escorted Bratton through the SPINSTRA classrooms; Bratton witnessed a demonstration where he observed the student’s learning process, and had hands-on experience with the training tools the 312th TRS uses.
Bratton also conversed with Guardians to discuss the training plan of future Guardians throughout basic military training and technical training.
“We have to think about career training in the Space Force and the value you place on an instructor. We want the best instructors,” said Bratton. “Training sets the pace for your whole career, we really want to lock in what you’re expected to learn and bring back to your team.”
