SAN ANGELO, Texas  -- Community members gathered to honor those who died in defense of our nation during a Memorial Day ceremony at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1815 in San Angelo, May 31.

The ceremony included a wreath-laying, the playing of “Taps”, and honoring Tech. Sgt. Richard Meyers, a past U.S. Air Force veteran who retired and made his home in San Angelo. Meyers died in 2015 due to causes attributed to his service in Vietnam.

Col. James Finlayson, 17th Training Wing vice commander, was the key note speaker at the ceremony.

“All of us owe a debt of gratitude to those who have fallen in defense of this great nation,” said Finlayson. “Freedom is truly not free and requires the sacrifice of others, for the safety and progress of our nation.”
