GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- This spotlight features Staff Sgt. Nigel Jaggard, 17th Logistics Readiness Squadron logistics planner. Jaggard enjoys martial arts, military drill, dance, and developing and training members to become better than they ever thought they could be.
How does your job support the 17th Training Wing's mission?
The 2G Logistics Plans career field supports the 17 TRW mission by providing outstanding logistics support to Goodfellow AFB and developing exceptional Air Force logisticians.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
I find being able to host the base Warrior Ancillary Skills Program and train the force to increase our lethality and strengthen our warrior ethos the most rewarding thing in my work.
What has been your most memorable experience in the military?
My three-year tour with the USAF Presidential Honor Guard as a member of the "Ambassadors in Blue" Travelling Drill Team, performing for high profile events and inspiring people to join the Air Force, has been my most memorable experience in the military.
What has been your biggest challenge in the military, and how did you overcome that challenge?
My biggest challenge was adjusting to a different career field by not being involved in the Air Force normalcies such as paperwork or academic training. I felt I was in a constant state of catching up to the expectations of my rank and position. The desire to be a reliable mentor and coworker to ensure my troops excel has given me the resiliency to overcome this challenge.
What is one piece of information or advice you would like to pass on?
We are the world's greatest Air Force because we bring unique perspectives and strengths to the table. We complement each other's skillsets. You don't need to do everything; find your "why," get what you love, and use it to enhance the people around you and your community.
What do you want to accomplish during your time here at Goodfellow Air Force Base?
Besides being the best supervisor I can be to my troops, I want my design for a new dress blues uniform that I have been working on with the Air Force Uniform Enterprise Working Group, to be approved. Additionally, I strive towards becoming a Military Training Instructor at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.
What has been the most meaningful experience you have had on Goodfellow?
My time spent training and mentoring the 312th Training Squadron, 315th TRS, and 316th TRS black rope Airmen has been the most meaningful experience. They dedicate the time and effort to learn a completely foreign concept of armed drill in harsh weather conditions. They simultaneously persevere through all of their issues to compete against each other and later four different bases at the Lackland AFB Drill Competition. They performed so phenomenally given the standards they had to maintain as technical trainees and circumstances that they truly exemplified elite Airmen.
