12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

AFIMSC expands development programs with supervisor rotation program

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas-- The Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center will offer more professional development opportunities for unit members when it launches the Supervisor Rotation Program Sept. 1.

The program, which is in line with Air Force and Materiel Command’s Diversity and Inclusion efforts, is designed to leverage capabilities, maximize efficiency and improve the effectiveness of the Center’s leaders.

The Directorate of Personnel team is the office of primary responsibility for fielding and managing the program.

“AFIMSC recognizes supervisory and leadership skills are the bedrock for fostering teamwork and collaboration, and we continuously seek new options that enable us to further develop our installation and mission support professionals,” said Robert Jackson, director of personnel. “The Supervisor Rotation Program is just one more avenue supporting the pursuit of organizational excellence.”

The Broadened Horizons and Experiential Opportunity programs are additional resources AFIMSC currently offers to develop functional expertise, operational competence and cross-functional knowledge to further integrate the delivery of installation and mission support capabilities, Jackson added.

The Supervisory Rotation program recognizes supervisors possess similar foundational leadership skills, regardless of the teams they manage; and a key component of the program is designed for supervisors to apply different leadership styles to different teams.

“What innovation is in one office may be different at another, so this program promotes diversity of thought as well as organizational perspective throughout our workforce,” said Dorothea Edwards, senior force development specialist. “Both are key sub-components of how the Air Force defines diversity, so it makes sense to make it part of our diversity and inclusion efforts.”

Current AFMC diversity and inclusion guidance calls for AFIMSC centers to review civilian Airmen serving in leadership positions to ensure appropriate career rotational placement occurs in order to drive organizational success and leadership development. The Supervisory Rotation Program aligns with AFMC Commander Gen. Arnold W. Bunch Jr.’s mandate to maximize mentorship programs and development of supervisory rotation plans, Edwards added.

“I expect leaders at all levels to maximize mentorship programs,” Bunch said. “We must also review non-uniformed Airmen serving in leadership positions to ensure appropriate career rotational placement occurs in order to drive organizational success and leadership development.”

The Workforce Development Division has identified the eligible supervisors and positions, and will work with respective units to execute the program.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
