12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

DOD celebrates 'National Veterans and Military Families Month'

November is National Veterans and Military Families Month.

The Department of Defense recognizes that military families have important roles to play in supporting a strong and ready force.

"Our nation's service members do not serve alone. Alongside them are the dedicated members of their families, whose commitment and resolve strengthen our nation. Your support and resilience help strengthen our force," said C. Eddy Mentzer, acting director of military community support programs. 

"The department recognizes that readiness depends on a strong and resilient home front, and we honor those who make it possible — our nation's nearly 3 million military family members," said Mentzer, whose spouse is an active-duty Air Force colonel.

Every military family is unique and could consist of not just immediate family members, but also partners, caregivers, extended family members and friends. "Each one of you is important."

Military life has its own unique challenges and rewards, and the department wants to ensure family members have support and access to resources they can use, said Mentzer. The entire suite of these resources is available on the Military OneSource website.

"Military OneSource should be the first stop for any military family when facing adversity," said Mentzer. "Service members and their families can visit the website, call Military OneSource at 800-342-9647 to speak with a Military OneSource consultant, or start a live chat. Our team will listen to your needs and lead you to the resources you need.

"Military OneSource is not just for currently serving military families, but also for transitioning service members and their families. They have access to all Military OneSource has to offer up to 365 days post-transition."

That website provides helpful information and guidance on topics, such as: 

  • Nurturing and growing friendships and relationships to help maintain important connections.
  • Navigating parenting and caregiving.
  • Planning for and working through different transitions in military life. 
  • Parenting, relationship support and child care help.
  • Programs for youths.
  • Spouse employment opportunities.
  • Permanent change of station and deployment assistance.

About Military OneSource

Military OneSource is a DOD-funded program that is both a call center and a website providing comprehensive information, resources and assistance on every aspect of military life. Service members and the families of active duty military; National Guard and reserve (irrespective of activation status); Coast Guard members when activated for the Navy; DOD expeditionary civilians; and survivors are eligible for Military OneSource services. These services are available worldwide 24 hours a day, seven days a week; they are free to the user.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
