12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

BMT increases guests, adds Airman's run to graduation ceremony

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – Beginning with the Nov. 24 Basic Military Training Graduation ceremony, graduates can invite up to four visitors. The Airman’s Run will also return as a public event beginning Nov. 24. However, there are important caveats to the increase of visitors for graduations scheduled for Nov. 24, and Dec. 2, 9 and 16.

BMT graduates scheduled for the Nov. 24, and Dec. 2, 9 and 16 ceremonies will be allowed to add 2 additional visitors to their guest list if they meet the following criteria:

  • Must be Department of Defense ID Card holders or be 17 years of age or younger.
  • Must be fully vaccinated if age 12 and over; must present proof of vaccination to gain entry to the graduation venue.

BMT graduates scheduled for the Dec. 29 ceremonies will start their visitor process with the option of inviting all 4 visitors. This means additional visitors will not have to meet age or DOD ID card requirements. All visitor requests are controlled by the trainees themselves. They determine who to invite to graduation events, subject to background checks for installation access. Individuals may not submit requests on their own behalf.

As a reminder, installation access and ceremony access are two separate procedures. Installation access is determined by the installation commander and Security Forces vetting procedures. BMT graduation access is more restrictive due to the close-quarters environment and limited capacity. Access to the installation does not guarantee access to BMT graduation events.

With the return of the Airman’s Run as a public event beginning Nov. 24, the graduation schedule will be as follows:

7:30 a.m.         Airman’s Run observed at the Airman’s Arena
8:00 a.m.         Welcome Briefing in the Auditorium
8:45 a.m.         New spouse orientation in the Chiefs Room
10:00 a.m.       Graduation Ceremony at the Airman’s Arena

All events take place at the Pfingston Reception Center. Visitors should follow the USAF BMT Facebook page and www.basictraining.af.mil for the latest official ceremony and entrance requirements.  BMT events are an amazing milestone for graduates, their families and the Nation, so don’t let other unofficial sources of information create confusion or otherwise diminish the occasion.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
