12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Respite Care available for EFMP families

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. (AFNS)-- Families enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program are eligible for additional support through the Air Force Respite Care program.

The program provides active duty Air Force families with short-term, specialized childcare to reduce the stressors associated with caring for a child with exceptional needs. It is exclusively connected to EFMP families coded for moderate and severe needs.

“For anyone in the position of being a caregiver, being able to step away to run errands, go to the gym, or just take a break is a huge help and benefit for their family,” said Robin Morris, 66th Force Support Squadron community childcare coordinator.

Morris emphasized that the Respite Care program is not a replacement for everyday childcare. The program allows up to 40 hours of care per month for both EFMP children and their siblings up to 13 years old at no cost to families.

“It can be so difficult to find, retain and afford reliable care for your children, especially when there are special needs and you’re working around deployments and permanent change of station moves,” said Kristy Anderson, an EFMP family member with two children. “The respite program does a lot of good for so many military families.”

While the Air Force runs the Respite Care program, providers are not Department of Defense employees, rather, independent caregivers.

“This program gives providers the option to work around other jobs, as long as the schedules don’t overlap,” Morris said. “You could be a DoD employee and offer this care to families on nights and weekends. There’s so much flexibility, and it can be so rewarding.”

Providers must be 18 or older and certified in first aid and CPR, as well as trained in special needs inclusion and child abuse prevention. Additional training may be required based on the exceptional needs of the family, including physical, mental, developmental or sensory needs.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
