12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Vice President arrives at Maxwell for Bloody Sunday anniversary

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala.-- Vice President Kamala Harris visited Alabama to commemorate the 57th anniversary of Bloody Sunday Mar. 6, 2022 in Selma, Alabama.

On Mar. 7th, 1965, civil rights protesters marched 54 miles from Selma to Montgomery for voter equality rights. However, they were stopped mid-march, beaten and tear gassed on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, thus the day become known as Bloody Sunday.

Air Force Two arrived and departed from Maxwell Air Force base with support from the 42nd Air Base Wing.

“It was an incredible honor to welcome Vice President Harris to Maxwell Air Force Base,” said Lieutenant General James Hecker, President and Commander, Air University. “As always, the 42d Air base Wing was ready and executed a world-class visit. They rose to the occasion and ensured a smooth arrival and departure integrating with the City of Montgomery and the Vice President’s advance teams.”

Before her departure, Harris extended her thanks on behalf of a grateful nation to Airmen, Guardians and their families, and recognized 10 exemplary Airmen from across Maxwell AFB and Gunter Annex.

On behalf of the women and men of Maxwell Air Force Base, Lieutenant General Hecker and Colonel Mentzer presented Vice President Harris with a model of the Maxwell Air Force Base Rosa Parks Sculpture to commemorate her visit.

“Maxwell Air Force Base changed Rose Parks.  Rosa Parks changed Montgomery, Alabama.  Montgomery, Alabama changed America, paving the path for greater equal opportunity for all Americans.  We are humbled to present Vice President Harris with a symbol of the Maxwell Air Force Base and City of Montgomery shared history to serve as a continued inspiration of the work that remains to achieve liberty and justice for all.” said Colonel Eries L.G. Mentzer, 42d Air Base Wing Commander.

Buttigieg, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan joined the vice president for the annual event in Selma which included a symbolic walk across the bridge.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
