JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – The 37th Training Support Squadron is launching a new Faculty Development course titled ‘Student-Centered Active Learning Experience’ (SC-AL-E) on Oct. 3.
Registration is now open for this in-residence course which is designed to equip learning professionals with the knowledge and skills to design and deliver student-centered active learning curriculum. Lesson topics included in this five-day course are how people learn, characteristics of a facilitator; teaching with emotional intelligence; teaching and learning styles; faculty roles in active learning; active learning strategies; integrating multimedia; learning spaces; designing student-centered active learning courses; writing course control documents; and integrating collaborative learning.
Students participate in hands-on learning activities they can incorporate directly into their professional practice. A final capstone project provides students the opportunity to redesign and facilitate a unit of instruction and receive feedback from their facilitator and peers.
“We are extremely excited to deliver this development opportunity to learning professionals across the Air Force, Space Force, along with joint, and coalition forces,” says Dr. Elizabeth ‘Lisa’ Rich, 37th TRSS FacD Flight Chief. “At the 37th TRSS, we are constantly innovating and rethinking our curriculum to deliver rich and engaging content that fit the diverse learning needs of our learning professionals.”
“This course is aimed at anyone who deals with designing, facilitating, managing, and evaluating courses across the Department of Defense,” says Mr. Kevin Salis, 37th TRSS Director of Operations. “Research shows that active learning works. Our goal is to provide faculty development courses that support innovative teaching and learning practices across the force.”
Upon completion of the course, graduates earn four CCAF credit hours and receive a Badgr digital credential in addition to their traditional paper-based certificate of completion.
