12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Maxwell | 908 AW earns effective rating during UEI Capstone

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. --  

The 908th Airlift Wing had a Unit Effectiveness Inspection performed by the Air Force Reserve Command’s Headquarters Inspector General Inspection Team from Sept. 8, 2022, to Sept. 13, 2022, at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

The purpose of a UEI is to measure a unit’s effectiveness and readiness on a scale of four grades ranging from ineffective to highly effective.

“The UEI is fundamentally a report card for the unit,” said Senior Master Sgt. Chris Hines, the wing’s inspection superintendent.

The wing’s senior leaders were informed during the UEI out-brief that the wing had earned a grade of effective according to Wing Commander, Col. Craig Drescher.

“The (IGI) team validated that we are doing outstanding work,” said Drescher. “It was very gratifying to see the very large number of superior performers recognized across the wing.”

Hines said the success of the inspection is due in part to the hard work of the wing’s members.

“We are incredibly pleased to see the wing received scores of effective overall,” said Hines. “Every single member in every section of every unit takes their jobs serious, and that’s what helps the wing continue to pass these inspections and continuously accomplish the mission.”

In addition to have having a large number of individuals acknowledged as superior performers the wing also had two larger groups recognized as well.

“The 908th Aeromedical Staging Squadron and the 25th Aerial Port Squadron were recognized by having superior teams,” said Drescher.

Drescher wants the wing to realize what it has accomplished saying, “Well done team, catch your breath and enjoy this, you have earned it.”

The wing’s last UEI took place in May 2019 where the wing had received the highest scores of any reserve unit in nearly three years at the time.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
