ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla.-- Leadership spouses from the 97th Air Mobility Wing toured multiple facilities across Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, as part of an annual leadership spouse tour, October 19, 2022.
The tour provided an opportunity for spouses to learn about wing resources available to Airmen and their families, along with sharing their stories and experiences.
“It’s important for the spouses to know about these resources,” said Gail Hargis, 97th AMW chief of protocol. “They’re the foundation of moving the mission forward; the more they understand about what’s available to them, the more they’re able to help the Airmen in their squadron.”
During the tour, spouses visited the 97th Medical Group, Airman Resiliency Center, Freedom Community Center, Youth Center, base housing, Outdoor Recreation, Hangar 97, Legal Office and the Military and Family Readiness Center.
These tour stops were selected due to their primary focus on morale and readiness services available on the installation. Services such as these are designed to promote fitness, maintain mission readiness and create a strong sense of military community that enhances the quality of life.
“These tours are very beneficial and help us gain insight and answer some of the questions that we may not have answers to, especially as a spouse and as a newcomer,” said Tara Stewart, spouse of Lt. Col. Andy Stewart, 97th Mission Support Group deputy commander. “As a spouse, I feel that my role is to be credible and approachable. Airmen and their families are our number one priority and it’s important to know about these programs and resources so we can help share them with everyone on base.”
