MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala -- Maxwell Air Force Base hosted a recognition ceremony here to honor military-connected children graduating from high schools across the River Region May 2, 2022.
Military children do not volunteer to be a part of a military family but are instead born into the organization that requires many obstacles for them to overcome.
“While moving isn’t necessarily unique to military personnel and their families, the frequency, timing, location, and choice to move often make military-connected relocations exceptional.,” said Col. Ryan Richardson 42nd Air Base Wing commander. “Holding a graduation recognition ceremony that brings military children from across the River Region together is a great way to acknowledge their perseverance, the support of their families, and to recognize their unique contributions to National Defense.”
Students were able to listen to inspiring messages and be honored by notable speakers from the community like Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Alabama State University president.
“As a former principal and now as a university president, I am always thrilled to participate in commencement ceremonies at every level of academic achievement, said Ross. “I would like to offer my congratulations to these young people who have reached this tremendous milestone in their lives.”
Students came from all over the River Region, including: Prattville High School, Wetumpka High School, Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, Pike Road High School, Booker T. Washington Magnet School, Marbury High School, The State Academy (homeschool), and Lee High School.
“We were glad that we were able to show our military-connected children that they have a network that supports them in their journey,” said Katheryn Ganster, Maxwell’s School Liaison program manager.
The 42nd ABW looks forward to hosting another graduation ceremony and further recognizing military-connected students assigned to Maxwell AFB and Gunter Annex.
