12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Air Force delays some PCSs, bonuses

ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNS)-- The Air Force is experiencing a shortfall in the FY23 Military Personnel Appropriation driven by higher-than-projected personnel costs.

Headquarters Air Force is directing actions to be taken now to avoid exhausting funds. AFPC is currently approving PCS orders for Airmen with projected departure dates in July. 

For all other Airmen awaiting PCS orders with projected departure dates of August or later, orders are being reviewed and approved on a priority basis. Some PCS order authentications will be delayed.

Effective July 11, 2023, the Air Force will suspend the FY23 selective reenlistment bonus program but will allow Airmen who would have been eligible after the deadline to extend their current enlistment into fiscal year 2024. This allows most Airmen to still access an SRB program with the FY23 rules until the FY24 program starts. Airmen who reach their maximum extensions by law on their enlistment can also be accommodated through constructive re-enlistment. Airmen should be on the lookout for AFPC messaging and work with their servicing MPF.

The Air Force is also temporarily pausing the Aviation Bonus program that opened on June 6, 2023, to restructure the program to continue offering bonuses to aviators. Within the next 14 days, the Air Force expects to reopen a restructured AvB, at which time officers who did not already elect to sign the AvB contract will be able to do so as long as funds remain.

Additionally, the Air Force is pausing new Assignment Incentive Pay; this includes Airmen signing contracts or initiating new pay at non-contract locations until the beginning of FY24. Airmen already receiving AIP will continue to receive that pay.

Finally, Airmen on overseas long tours with a DEROS between October – December 2023 will have their DEROS extended to January – March 2024.

AFPC will continue to prioritize and authenticate orders for mandatory moves and will consider ETP requests on a case-by-case basis.

The Air Force continues to work through additional options to avoid the funding shortfall and will provide more information when available.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
