COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss.-- The 14th Mission Support Group (14 MSG) is launching new quality of life initiatives around the 14th Flying Training Wing this year.
Projects that have been completed include the construction of the Red Bird simulator facility, roof replacements, upgrades to the enlisted dorms and renovations on the Maintenance Group headquarters facility were all projects completed by the 14th Civil Engineering Squadron (14 CES).
The 14 CES was also responsible for the repaving of Imes Street, the gym parking lot and the chapel parking lot. They also completed construction of the Comprehensive Readiness for Aircrew Flying Training (CRAFT) facility, the indoor firing range and the Defense Logistics Agency fill stand.
Beyond all these accomplishments, CAFB is preparing for the T-7 beddown project and installation of new sunshade canopies at the Child Development Center.
The Installation Management Flight within the 14 CES accomplished several projects this year that not only improved quality of life for residents and personnel but showcased natural resource stewardship around the installation.
Recycling base-wide was increased to 57% this past year, culminating in 16 tons of recycling materials. Additionally, 150 acres of invasive species and bird habitat around the airfield were removed to reduce potential bird strikes. In addition, the Installation Management Flight completed a 32-acre cleanup around SAC Lake including nature trails and acquired $400k from the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center for new furnishings in enlisted and officer dorms.
The 14 MSG completed the on-base threatened and endangered species survey for the alligator snapping turtle along with a base-wide environmental assessment, paving the way for the T-7 beddown.
The 14 MSG covers several areas of responsibility as well as oversight for wartime preparedness and contingency operations at Columbus Air Force Base. They provide essential services, operate and maintain facilities for a 6,013-acre pilot training base as well as, providing contracting, law enforcement, supply, transportation, fire protection, communications, education, recreation and personnel management for 9,500 Airmen, government civilians, contractors and their families.
