12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Joint Base San Antonio and 502nd Air Base Wing command chief retires

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas --  

Chief Master Sgt. Casy Boomershine, Joint Base San Antonio and 502nd Air Base Wing command chief, retired from the U.S. Air Force after a 28-year career during a ceremony inside the Basic Military Training Pfingston Reception Center at JBSA-Lackland July 24, 2023.

A Clovis, New Mexico, native, Boomershine has served as the JBSA and 502nd command chief since August 2021 and played a pivotal role in fostering wing identity and unity by promoting cross-communication and unification among senior enlisted leaders, first sergeants, and private organizations. Together, they built a strong bond through regular touchpoints and battle-rhythm meetings.

Since joining the Air Force in 1995, she has had a diverse career serving in leadership positions in both aircraft maintenance and AGE maintenance.  She also served in special duty assignments such as Military Training Instructor and as a First Sergeant.  She has served overseas and has deployed in support of Operations NORTHERN WATCH and in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Recognizing the importance of caregiver support, Boomershine initiated a development and resiliency campaign benefiting 86 assigned first sergeants and an equal number of additional duty first sergeants at Joint Base San Antonio. They received targeted professional development and much-needed resiliency care.

Her dedication led to the establishment and chairing of the Joint Base San Antonio Augmentee Review Board. This board not only codified augmentee support requirements but also opened a forum for discussions and negotiations. The result was that critical manning gaps were filled efficiently and effectively, thanks to collaboration with 19 mission partner senior enlisted leaders.

Breaking barriers and championing equality, the chief founded the first-ever Joint Base Women's Initiative Team, focused on supporting all service members. Senior leader champions rallied behind these initiatives, making a real difference for everyone.

Boomershine also revamped the wing awards and Joint Base San Antonio's "Below the Zone" programs. By creating a feedback loop through board member out briefs, the process is now more transparent, structured, and efficient.

Chief Master Sgt. Gilda M. Alexander has taken over duties as the new Joint Base San Antonio and 502nd Air Base Wing command chief.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
