MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- The Air University K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Outreach Program awarded the first Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality Lab in Montgomery, Alabama to Booker T. Washington Magnet High School, Oct. 25, 2023.
The AR/VR Lab provides ten workstations offering students an immersive introduction to virtual reality and the tools and techniques used to create and design their own virtual experiences.
The purpose of the K-12 STEM Outreach Program is to “inspire, cultivate, and develop exceptional STEM talent” by exposing students, teachers, and their influencers to Air Force opportunities and resources in the River Region and to underserve communities. The AR/VR Lab is an Air University investment to help inspire and prepare the STEM workforce of the future.
Over 500 students in grades 9-12 are afforded the opportunity to unlock their creative potential and unleash new learning experiences in virtual environments. Booker T. Washington Magnet High School’s motto is “Excellence in all things.”
“Our scholars not only think outside of the box, but also reinvent the box when creativity and the arts lead innovation in science, technology, engineering, and math,” said Dr. Quesha Starks, Booker T. Washington Magnet High School, principal. “We appreciate the efforts to expand educational opportunities in STEM education of Montgomery Public School and Booker T. Washington students. By including the arts, BTW is transforming STEM to STEAM!”
