12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Luke AFB Airman gives back for the holidays

LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz.-- The 56th Fighter Wing First Shirt Council worked alongside the U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program to distribute hundreds of toys to Luke Air Force Base families Dec. 21-22, 2023, Luke AFB, Arizona.

The event took place behind the Airman’s Attic next to the Luke AFB theater, and across from the Base Exchange parking garage from 1000-1500.

The primary goal of Marine Toys for Tots is, through the gift of a new toy, to help bring the joy of the holidays and send a message of hope to America’s less fortunate children. This year, the First Shirt Council worked with the Marines to give to Luke AFB families this holiday season.

The focal point of this collaboration was Senior Airman Fernanda Huerta, 56th Comptroller Squadron emergency actions controller and president of the 56th Fighter Wing Staff Agency Comptroller Booster Club.

Working with the Marine Toys for Tots program, Huerta found they had hundreds of leftover toys from the event this year. With a day’s notice, Huerta immediately rented a U-haul and picked up the remaining toys. She then began working with the First Shirt Council to find a place to host the event.

“Last year, when I moved here, the Toys for Tots program helped my family out when I needed toys for my two girls,” said Huerta. “This year I wanted to give back, and help those families who might be struggling this holiday season.”

After she confirmed the time and place, she created a flyer, and sent out an email looking for volunteers to help with the event. Huerta gives a special thanks to her husband and his team at the 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron along with other volunteer Airmen for this last-minute effort.

The actions of Senior Airman Fernanda Huerta and the volunteers behind this event, exemplify the importance of showing care and compassion to Airmen and their families during the holiday season.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
