ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Leaders from the 97th Air Mobility Wing held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Jan. 29, 2024, at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, to celebrate the opening of a new Family Child Care home operated by Roisveli Matos, FCC provider.
Having access to quality child care services ensures Airmen can focus on the mission, knowing their children are being cared for by highly trained and certified providers.
FCC home providers are certified by the Mission Support Group commander, and offer care for children from the ages of two weeks to 12 years old. In-home care facilities aim to support families with varying schedules and special needs.
Matos has put in the work and dedication, becoming the first certified FCC home provider on Altus AFB in the last four years, officially opening her in-home daycare facility to serve Airmen.
Chief Master Sgt. Justin Brundage, 97th AMW command chief, congratulated Matos’ achievement at the beginning of the ceremony.
“This is a huge milestone and accomplishment, you should be very proud to get to this point because it took a huge team effort,” said Brundage. “This is a great service you are providing to take care of our Airmen, and we appreciate all of your efforts.”
Matos, the spouse of Airman 1st Class Michael Paula, 97th Operations Support Squadron radar airfield weather systems journeyman, has completed all the same training as the direct care staff at the Child Development Center, in addition to licensing requirements to maintain an in-home child care facility.
At the end of the ceremony, Matos shared what has motivated her to serve children as a Family Child Care home provider.
“I have always enjoyed working with children,” she said. “Growing up, my mom had a daycare and it inspired me to open my own to be able to care for families and children, giving them hope and making their days better.”
