12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

USO brings mobile gaming unit to Laughlin

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  

The United Service Organizations (USO) visited Laughlin June 2-3, 2024, with their Mobile National Football League (NFL) Gaming Trailer, boosting the morale of Airmen and base residents. The NFL gaming trailer held two events, one geared towards Airmen and the other for families.

The NFL gaming trailer is the only unit of its kind within the USO. This marks huge milestone, as having it travel to Laughlin builds our connection with USO allowing more events to occur here.

“This is their first trip to Laughlin,” said Staff Sgt. Tanner Bailey, 47th Force Support Squadron, manpower analyst. “I am trying to expound on Laughlin’s relationship with the USO, and by working with them to bring it here and have the event, we increase the likelihood of them returning and/or proving a permanent gaming facility.”

The NFL gaming trailer parked in front of Losano Fitness Center and provided Airmen and their families the opportunity to play the popular football video game Madden, try virtual reality, play cornhole, and enjoy free food and drinks..

“It gives both our hardworking servicemembers and their supportive families something new and fun to do together,” stated Bailey, who led the event. “It allows the servicemembers to partake in casual gaming for recreation and to play in tournaments with a more competitive edge. This gave the Airmen another option for activities outside of remaining in their room or going to San Antonio.”

Video games are one of the many ways our Laughlin airmen connect with each other and build comradery and resilience. Football is an entertaining American tradition that brings family and friends together.

“Approximately 185 personnel attended the event,” said Bailey. “80 on the active-duty day and 105 on family day. There were 30 gaming tournament participants.”

Whether teamwork or friendly competition, the mobile NFL gaming unit let airmen and families to come together to have an evening full of relaxation and fun.

On their website, the USO mentions how football can be entertainment, a way to relax, a shared tradition with family and friends or a way to remind troops of home. Football brings a bit of home to the troops and can connect service members, their families and communities.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
