JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- Col. Peter J.S. Lee assumed command of the 12th Flying Training Wing in a ceremony at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph on Friday, July 12, 2024. Col. Lee takes over from Col. Taylor T. Ferrell, who had led the unit since August 2022.
Prior to this assignment, Col. Lee served as the commander of the 48th Operations Group, 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom. During his tenure, he oversaw the group's F-15 and F-35 fighter operations, ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe.
In his new role, Col. Lee will lead the 12th Flying Training Wing, responsible for providing instructor pilot training, combat systems officer training, remotely piloted aircraft pilot training, and basic sensor operator qualification. The wing also supports the operations of the T-1A Jayhawk, T-6A Texan II, and T-38C Talon aircraft. Additionally, Col. Lee will oversee the 306th Flying Training Group at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and the 479th Flying Training Group at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida.

Col. Lee is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, where he earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He is a command pilot and has logged over 1,900 flight hours the T-6 Texan II, T-38C Talon, F-15C Eagle, and the F-35A Lightning II.
The 12th Flying Training Wing, known as the “West Point of the Air,” is a key component of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC), preparing future airmen and officers for service.
