12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

82nd Training Wing-developed Airmanship 200 course implemented

SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  

After more than two years of collaborative effort by the 82nd Training Wing and 2nd Air Force to develop a curriculum that addresses gaps in Airmen’s foundational competencies, a revamped Airmanship 200 has been officially implemented across the technical training enterprise

The 82nd TRW chaplain corps spearheaded the effort here to develop a series of classes that help Airmen develop life and Airmanship skills that are critical to operate resiliently in contested environments, and in their careers generally.

“Because the 82 TRW was passionate about developing Mission Ready Airmen, a grass roots movement formed to instill Airmen in Training with a Warrior Ethos. Wing leadership saw the potential and asked that the training be expanded from three modules to nine, with a focus on all four comprehensive Airman fitness domains,” said Col. Rolf Holmquist, 82nd TRW Wing Chaplain. “It was an organic and collaborative phenomenon with inputs from all of 2nd Air Force and brought about the revitalization of the revised Airmanship 200.”

During a visit to Sheppard AFB, Maj. Gen. Michele Edmondson, 2nd Air Force Commander, coined Holmquist and his staff in recognition of their efforts.

Along with the chaplains, several instructors and military training leaders volunteered to facilitate the classes, providing feedback used to continuously improve the course throughout the process.

“Developing mission-ready Airman is a team sport at the 82nd Training Wing, and Airmanship 200 is a great example of that,” said Command Chief Master Sgt Rey Schultz. “Our chaplains were the force behind it and worked with our instructors and MTLs to develop and hone the curriculum. Getting this to full operational capability across our dozens of training pathways here at the wing was a Herculean effort, let alone bringing it to all of Second Air Force. It’s not every day you get the chance to shape the future of the Air Force, but these Airmen got that chance and ran with it – Airmanship 200 will help develop 93 percent of our force going forward.”

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
