From MTL to National softball player: Tech. Sgt. Kasey Pettit-Castor

Tech Sgt. Kasey Pettit-Castor, 362d Training Squadron Military Training Leader, has dedicated more than 15 years to serving her country in the Air Force, and now her passion for softball that has taken her to the Armed Forces tournament for the seventh time, where she pitched and played short-stop for the Air Force team Aug. 13-19 2024, in Oklahoma City.

The Air Force team took home third place, but Pettit-Castor won gold five times, with 2017, 2018 and 2019 being consecutive gold medal wins for the Air Force. Following the 2024 tournament, she was one of 15 out of 60 women selected for the National Armed Forces team where they finished in fourth place.

As she reflected on her time playing on the USAF team, she encouraged all Airmen to explore the sports program because of the benefits and what it has to offer.

“The most important benefit to me playing on the USAF team is networking and the lifelong friends that I’ve made over the years,” said Pettit-Castor. “In all honesty, the Department of the Air Force Sports program is one of the only reasons I’m still in the military today. I feel like I’ve found ‘my people’ across many different career fields and that far outweighs the long work hours and deployments.”

Pettit-Castor credits her leadership and fellow wingmen at the 362d TRS for being able to balance being an MTL with the busy softball schedule.

“I have a good team that can take the load and handle it while I’m away,” said Pettit-Castor. “It’s important to note that playing softball helps me balance the stressors of being an MTL flight chief, but knowing that the team can bear the load, makes me extremely lucky to have the team here at 362.”
