SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Officers from the 502nd Air Base Wing at Joint Base San Antonio attended the University of Texas at San Antonio career fair on Nov. 7 to provide optional career paths to the Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets.
Participating officers offered tailored advice on leadership pathways, technical roles, and positions that align with cadets’ skills and aspirations. Attendees had the opportunity to interact one-on-one with experienced officers. Cadets visited informational booths, where 502nd ABW officers shared their military experiences, discussed career opportunities, and outlined specialized Air Force roles.
“I appreciate how this year’s event allowed us to talk directly to officers in fields we’re interested in, instead of just listening to speeches like last year,” said Cadet William Davis. “Hearing about career options from those actually in the field makes a big difference.”
“I value the chance to work with ROTC cadets because they are the future of our force,” said 1st Lt. Allison Eade, 502nd Communication Squadron. “I’m dedicated to providing them with the mentorship I wish I had.”
Officers from diverse fields such as medical, security forces, finance, communications, logistics, legal, and aviation contributed to the event.
“We’ve made great strides in recruitment and retention this year,” said UTSA ROTC Commander Col. Gregory Cyrus. “Our detachment rose from number 11 to number 7 among 145 detachments, and we’re closing in on the top 5. More importantly, we’re following through on senior leader guidance to develop mission-ready Airmen and Guardians that are prepared to lead effectively.”
This career fair is part of an ongoing collaboration between JBSA and UTSA’s ROTC program to strengthen the connection between current officers and future Air Force leaders.
