12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Belgian Air and Space commander visits Luke AFB

LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. — The 56th Fighter Wing leadership team, along with the 312th Fighter Squadron, hosted Maj. Gen. Thierry Dupont, commander of the Belgium Air and Space Component, during his visit to Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, Jan. 13-16, 2025.

As Belgium prepares to transition from the F-16 Fighting Falcon to the F-35A Lightning II, the nation is focused on ensuring its pilots and maintainers are fully equipped to operate and sustain the fifth-generation aircraft effectively.

“The relationship between Belgium and the United States is built on decades of trust and cooperation,” said Dupont. “As Belgium transitions to the F-35 platform, it is vital that we continue to learn from one another to maintain mission readiness and ensure global preparation.”

During his visit, Dupont toured various facilities, met with leadership, and observed training operations conducted by the 56th FW and the 944th Fighter Wing. The discussions focused on enhancing interoperability, sharing best practices, and leveraging the advanced training environment provided at Luke AFB to support Belgium’s F-35 program.

Luke AFB serves as a critical training hub for United States and allied F-35 pilots. Belgium is among several international partners participating in the F-35 program, with its first aircraft delivered in 2024.

“The integration of allies into our training programs not only enhances their operational capabilities, but also strengthens our collective ability to respond to global challenges,” said Col. Matthew Johnston, 56th Fighter Wing deputy commander. “This collaboration ensures robust deterrence and the ability to decisively respond to security threats around the globe.”

As part of the visit, Dupont observed live training missions, including joint operations scenarios involving Belgian and U.S. pilots. He also toured the 312th FS, where F-35 pilots receive state-of-the-art instruction and engaged with Belgian personnel currently embedded at Luke AFB.

“The training environment here is unparalleled,” said Dupont. “The ability to integrate our pilots into a diverse and dynamic operational setting prepares them to excel in complex, multinational missions.”

Luke AFB continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the capabilities of allied air power, ensuring readiness and cooperation in support of global peace and security.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
