JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- Drivers traveling through the South Ramp at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph should expect an increase in T-6 Texan II aircraft crossing the roadway beginning Sept. 21, 2026, as the West flight line undergoes renovation.
The renovation is scheduled to begin Sept. 21 and continue through the middle of Jun. 2027. During the project, T-6 aircraft operating from the West flight line will taxi across the South Ramp to the East flight line before takeoff. This temporary change in aircraft operations will result in more frequent aircraft crossings and potential delays for motorists.
To help manage the increased aircraft and vehicle traffic, traffic-control devices will be placed at the South Ramp crossing, and Airmen will be positioned to direct traffic. Drivers must follow all traffic-control devices and the instructions of Airmen directing traffic through the crossing.
Drivers should plan for additional travel time when using the South Ramp and remain alert for aircraft and Airmen directing traffic.
The South Ramp crossing is an active aircraft operating area where T-6 aircraft routinely cross the roadway as they taxi between flightline areas. Aircraft have the right of way, and motorists must follow all posted traffic signs, traffic-control devices and the directions of Airmen controlling traffic.
When approaching the crossing, drivers will come to a complete stop when directed and remain stopped until directed to proceed. Motorists must obey Airmen holding traffic-control signs and follow their hand signals and instructions, even if the roadway appears clear.
Drivers must never attempt to drive around an aircraft, traffic-control device or an Airman controlling traffic, and must not attempt to beat an approaching aircraft across the crossing. Motorists are encouraged to remain patient, avoid distractions and give aircraft and flightline personnel the time and space needed to safely conduct operations.
The increased T-6 traffic will continue throughout the West flight line renovation. Once the project is complete and normal aircraft operations resume, aircraft traffic patterns across the South Ramp are expected to return to normal.
The temporary change allows T-6 operations to continue while the West flight line is renovated. The cooperation of drivers and pedestrians will help ensure the safe movement of aircraft, personnel and vehicles throughout the installation.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, expect delays and follow all traffic-control devices and the directions of Airmen controlling traffic at the South Ramp.
