12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

Air Force kicks off Energy Action Month

WASHINGTON (AFNS) --  October is Energy Action Month throughout the federal government and in the Air Force. During the month, the Air Force will run several campaigns in order to promote using energy wisely.

In 2012, President Barack Obama issued a presidential proclamation declaring October as National Energy Action Month. In the proclamation, Obama called upon Americans to work together “to achieve greater energy security, a more robust economy, and a healthier environment for our children.”

Throughout the month, the Air Force will share innovative ways in which Airmen and their families can make more energy-aware choices. These include turning off lights, limiting the time vehicles idle, shutting down unnecessary appliances and other equipment, and observing energy efficient behavior on the job. Implementing these types of best practices can have a significant impact on reducing energy demand.

While the Air Force runs many energy awareness programs, it relies on its Airmen to find new ways to save time, money and energy. Airmen who wish to submit energy saving ideas may do so by working with their local Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century office.

“Since fiscal year 2011, the Air Force has created a 10 percent increase in the distance we can carry a ton of cargo on a gallon of fuel, while simultaneously decreasing the related costs by more than 8 percent,” said Miranda Ballentine, assistant secretary of the Air Force for installations, environment and energy. “This is one of many success stories driven by great suggestions from the field.”

The Air Force not only looks for ways to save energy but also to use renewable energy. Currently, the Air Force is the leading purchaser of renewable energy within the federal government and has been a long time pioneer of renewable energy development and leadership. The military branch is also recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Green Power Partner, one of the nation’s top purchasers of green power.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. To schedule a tour of JBSA-Randolph, please contact JBSA-Randolph Public Affairs at 502abw.pa.official@us.af.mil or dial 210-652-4410.

If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
