12th Flying Training Wing

The 12th Flying Training Wing, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, develops the next generation of Air Force aviators and enlisted aircrew by providing world-class flying training and education. The wing trains Airmen in the fundamentals of airmanship, instruction and leadership, preparing them for success in operational units across the Air Force. Through undergraduate Combat Systems Officer training, Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot indoctrination, enlisted aviator training, and other specialized programs, the 12th FTW produces skilled, adaptable, and combat-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today's complex operating environment while strengthening the future of American airpower.

7,501 selected for promotion to technical sergeant

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas (AFNS) --  The Air Force has selected 7,501 staff sergeants for promotion to technical sergeant of the 33,569 eligible.

The overall selection rate was 22.35 percent, with an average selectee overall score of 380.67. Officials selected 2,020 Airmen with a promote now recommendation for 26.93 percent of the total selects; 2,348 Airmen with a must promote recommendation (31.30 percent of the total selects); and 3,133 Airmen with a promote recommendation (41.77 percent of the total selects).

According to Air Force officials, these percentages show that the system is highlighting top performers while still affording opportunities to high performing Airmen with a promote recommendation.

Selectees' average time-in-grade was 4.6 years and time-in-service was 9.51 years. The overall score was based on point averages of 219.73 for enlisted performance reports, 5.57 for decorations, 69.24 for the promotion fitness examination and 67.39 for the specialty knowledge test.

These results continue to achieve the intended purpose of the new Enlisted Evaluation System and fully tracks information provided to the enlisted force during last year's roadshows. Within the promotion recommendation groups, 97.5 percent of eligible Airmen with a promote now recommendation were selected, 63.5 percent of those in the must promote recommendation group were selected, and 11.6 percent in the promote recommendation group. This matches the intent of those with a promote now receiving a "significant advantage over their peers," those with a must promote receiving an "advantage over their peers" and those with a promote rating given a rating "relative to their peers."

The technical sergeant promotion list is available on the Air Force Portal and myPers. The Air Force is currently experiencing a system issue affecting the virtual military personnel flight and information for data displays. One of the data displays affected is Weighted Airman Promotion System promotion score notices. Until the problem is corrected, individual promotion score notices may not be readily available.

Selectees will be promoted in order of promotion sequence number beginning in August.

As a reminder, the myPers website will be down for scheduled maintenance starting 6 p.m., July 21 through midnight July 24. The promotion release list will remain available for access via the Air Force Portal.

Public Affairs Information

Tours of the 12th Flying Training Wing are provided to various community organizations, high schools, businesses, and academic military recruitment programs to educate their members about the 12th FTW mission.

Due to the high volume of requests and limited public affairs resources, tours and static displays are limited.

Please submit all requests in writing to the 12th FTW Public Affairs by email to 12ftw.pa.1@us.af.mil at least three weeks but no more than six weeks in advance. You may also call 210-652-1272.

Tours are not available on weekends and may be cancelled at any time because of increased security measures or mission requirements. The 12th FTW does not host tours of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph at-large. If desired, requestors must arrange all meals. PA will provide contact information to base eateries. Modified tours will be granted for those with limited mobility - this must be stated on the tour request. If not stated, it is assumed that mobility is not an issue.
