19th Air Force and Maxwell AFB offer Cadets and Students a Glimpse into Airpower Published Oct. 20, 2023 By Airman 1st Class Greydon Furstenau Air University Public Affairs 19th Air Force, Air University and the 42nd Air Base Wing teamed up to provide an aviation and military focused experience to local high school and college students, Oct. 12, 2023. This event was centered around the ambitions and dreams of young aviators. Facilitated by the 19th Air Force's Fly In, students and cadets, totaling around 300, learned about various pathways to aviation-oriented careers and opportunities. “I love it here; I’ve gotten to see really in depth what the Air Force is about with all the medics and other things that I didn’t know until now. I didn’t even know the Air Force had a Civil Air Patrol until now. It’s all fun and feels engaging. I don’t think many people would be bored coming here with all the interactive stuff,” said Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp Cadet Gabrielle Quave, Johnson Abernathy Graetz high school student. The lineup of various aircraft they witnessed included fighter, cargo, trainer, and fixed wing. To further the engagement, informational booths were set up in stages surrounding the event, offering deeper insight into the many facets of the Air Force. Key contributors such as Security Forces and the Fire Department were on hand, ensuring attendees could interact and gain valuable knowledge directly from professionals in those fields as well. “This event is more than just static displays; it's about forging connections, sharing experiences, and inspiring the next generation. Seeing our dedicated servicemen and women interact with young cadets and students from the surrounding communities reminds us of our commitment to mentorship and leadership in our great Air Force," Maj. Gen. Clark J. Being in that flight was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before, and it’s even more exciting when you want to become a pilot to be able to get a chance to do this. I feel like you’re always a little skeptical about making decisions, but this defiantly makes me want to become a pilot," ROTC Cadet Logan Fowler at Alabama State University said. Looking ahead to another aviation event, Maxwell AFB is excited to host "Beyond the Horizon" Air and Space Show on April 6 and 7, 2024. This air show will feature the United States Navy Blue Angels.
