MAJOR GENERAL RICHARD C. JOHNSTON

Maj. Gen. Richard C. Johnston is the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force, International Affairs, Office of the Under Secretary of the Air Force, Washington, D.C. International Affairs is responsible for formulating and integrating Air Force policy with respect to political-military relationships, security assistance, technology and information disclosure issues, military exchanges, and attaché affairs in support of U.S. government objectives.

General Johnston was commissioned through Officer Training School. He has commanded the 2nd Air Refueling Squadron, McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.; two expeditionary air refueling squadrons; the 317th Airlift Group, Dyess AFB, Texas; the 320th Air Expeditionary Wing; the 86th Airlift Wing and the Kaiserslautern Military Community -- the largest community of Americans outside the United States, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. The general has deployed in support of operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Kosovo, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. 

His previous assignments include, Director, Plans, Programs and Analyses, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, Germany (also served as the Chairman of the Strategic Airlift Capability Board 12-nation C-17 Heavy Airlift Wing program based in Papa, Hungary) and Director, Air Force Strategic Planning, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Programs, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. 

General Johnston is a command pilot with more than 4,300 flying hours in the C-130E/H/J, C-21A, C-37A, C-40B, KC-10A, and WC-130E/H aircraft.
