Maj. Gen. Marvin Jay Barry is the mobilization assistant to the Chief of the Air Force Reserve, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. He serves as the principal adviser for the individual mobilization augmentee program supporting more than 12,000 Air Force Reservists. He chairs the individual mobilization augmentee allocation team which allocates funding for this program throughout the Air Force.
The general entered the Air Force in 1970 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. After completion of pilot training at Reese Air Force Base, Texas, he flew in Southeast Asia as a C-130 pilot. He has served as an instructor, flight examiner, operations officer and commander of a tactical airlift squadron. He has also served as vice commander of a strategic airlift wing. During Operation Desert Storm, he commanded a provisional tactical airlift squadron which had been activated to support operations in theater. The general is a command pilot with more than 4,800 hours of flight time in C-130 and C-5 aircraft.
In his civilian occupation, he is employed by a major air carrier as a captain.
