MAJOR GENERAL EARL D. MATTHEWS

Maj. Gen. Earl D. Matthews is the Director, Cyberspace Operations, Office of Information Dominance and Chief Information Officer, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, the Pentagon, Washington D.C. General Matthews is the Cyberspace Operations and Support Career Field Functional Manager, responsible for the development of 77,000 officers, enlisted and civilian personnel, meeting current and projected operational requirements. He oversees the Air Force information assurance program to ensure compliance with all legislative, Department of Defense and joint information assurance policies and directives. Additionally, he leads the Air Force in developing cyberspace operations policy, providing Information Technology and National Security System solutions and shaping long-range strategies for management of a portfolio valued in excess of $7 billion dollars annually.

General Matthews received his commission in 1983 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Northern Arizona University. General Matthews has held a variety of positions in space and cyberspace operations, maintenance, and plans, including Air Staff and joint assignments. He previously commanded the 22nd Communications Squadron, McConnell AFB, Kan.; 50th Network Operations Group, Schriever AFB, Colo.; 38th Combat Support Wing, Kapaun Air Station, Germany and 435th Air Base Wing, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Prior to assuming his current position, he was Director, Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems and Chief Information Officer, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott AFB, Ill.
