BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN J. MOONEY III

Brigadier General John J. Mooney III is the Inspector General, Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga. He is responsible for advising the command's leadership on how to optimize resources and enhance mission effectiveness by upholding standards and influencing positive change. He also ensures the existence of responsive inquiry and complaint resolution characterized by objectivity, integrity, and impartiality.

General Mooney was born and raised in Bangor, Maine. He was commissioned in the Air Force Officer Training School in October 1982, serving 12 years on active duty. During that time, he served in a variety of assignments including standardization and evaluation instructor navigator, radar navigator, flight commander, B-52G/H command evaluator and B-52G/H senior radar navigator. He joined the Air Force Reserve in 1994, and is a command navigator with more than 5,440 flying hours, including more than 615 combat flying hours.

Prior to his current assignment, the general served in several key leadership positions, including operations group, commander, and vice commander of an Air Force Reserve wing and assistant vice commander and chief of staff of the 10th Air Force. His list of leadership positions also includes a deployed command of the 40th Expeditionary Operations Group. He has deployed in support of combat missions in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
